Make Fabric Flower Hair Accessories: 5 Easy Tutorials

I love the look of handmade fabric flowers as you can probably tell from a few of my other hubs! They come in many shapes and sizes and they are a super easy DIY project. Flowers made from fabric make great embellishments to clothes, purses etc. but in this hub I would like to focus just on fabric flower hair accessories. There are MANY different types of fabric flower tutorials out there so I tried to get a few different ones gathered up for you. The main thing I want you to keep in mind is that on many of these projects you can use pretty much any type fabric. I encourage you to have fun and try out different fabrics and see how they turn out. If you are wanting a more formal look, I think organza's and silk would be beautiful or if you are wanting something more casual you could use cotton or similar. Its fun to play around with different prints, too. The thing I love about it is you can create something special out of some fabric scraps you were saving or scraps that may have otherwise landed in the trash can. Do you have a piece of clothing that is a nice fabric, yet it got ruined or for whatever reason it is not wearable anymore? You could recycle that shirt, dress or that pair of jeans to make fabric flowers. It would be such a waste for it to end up in the trash, right?! Okay.. I am all excited now... Let's get to it!

Here is a fabric flower headband made with victorian lace with a pearl in the middle. This tutorial is surprisingly easy. It's really pretty. As I am looking at this flower I am imagining a few of them of different sizes lined up together and glued onto a metal headband but I love the look of one on the elastic band too. The flower attached to the band a bit larger than how it appears in this picture but there are several other pics on the tutorial page so you can see the scale of it better. I love this cute ruffly fabric flower headband! I am looking at this and imaging different types of fabric and how it could look. It's one of those that you can use a more formal type material to make it more dressy or you could use something simple for a casual look. The best thing about it is how easy it is to make. This is a ribbon flower and looks to made from organza. Isn't it pretty? They've connected it to a clip but of course you could make them and attach them to whatever you want. In this tutorial she has used a sewing machine but if you do not have one you can hand stitch it. A machine will just get it done a little quicker. To learn how go to Floral Showers Crafts.

I am loving these little fabric rosette bobby pins. You can see the easy tutorial at Simply Step Back. I'm sure you could make these work with regular bobby pins somehow or you can find bobby pins with a "base" to glue the flowers onto at places online like Etsy and Artfire.

I wanted to add the tutorial for these headbands because I thought they were just precious. You could make just the band or make the band and attach some fabric flowers to it (I'm thinking). I imagine it would be just darling! The tutorial for this cute, simple headband is located at Sweet Pea.  The only thing about these headbands is that they are made using a sewing machine but they were just too cute not to include here. If you do have a sewing machine, they look to be an easy sewing project.

Here are some ideas on how to obtain the "base" hair accessories that you will be attaching your fabric flowers to.

• You can fix up old barrettes, head bands, etc that you already have.
  
• You could buy a package of plain barrettes, ponytail holders, headband etc. at the store
  
• you can buy plain barrettes, clips, elastic and metal headbands etc. online at places like Etsy and Artfire.
