How to Make a Sticker with the Xyron 500

One of the most handy craft tools I've used is the Xyron 500 create-a-sticker machine. You can make a stickers using paper or chipboard. You can use any type paper, whether it is regular paper, scrapbook paper or thick types of paper, such as Mulberry paper. The Xyron 500 will work with all weights of paper. You can even use thicker product like cardstock or chipboard. This is the perfect tool for scrapbooking as many scrapbookers use sticker-type embellishments. You can easily make your own embellishments by punching or cutting shapes out of decorative paper and feeding the shapes through the machine to add adhesive to the backs. You can even make photos (up to 5x7) into stickers. This particular model will make super large stickers, up to 5 inches wide!

• Paper or thin chipboard shapes

Take the piece of paper or chipboard that you want to make into a sticker and feed it into the slot on the front of the Xyron. It is the flat slot that is in the front of the machine. Push the piece of paper or chipboard into the slot as far as it will go. You can do multiple pieces at once by putting them one after the other but you have to make sure each piece is pushed back as far as it will go so it will be grabbed by the machine and pulled through.

Turn the knob on the right side of the machine. The knob only turns one way and that is clockwise so you will be turning the knob away from you. This will feed the paper or chipboard piece into the machine which will apply the adhesive on the back. Keep turning the knob and watch the back of the machine as the piece is being fed out of the back slot.

Once the piece is fed through and visible in the back of the Xyron machine, pull upwards against the lacerated edge and tear the piece off just like you would a piece of foil. The piece of paper or chipboard that you ran through the machine will come out adhered to a waxy paper backing just like on a regular sticker. You can trim the excess waxy backing from the sticker if you want. If you are planning to use it right away, just peel it off and stick. That's it and you are done!

Here are some photos showing you how to run multiple smaller pieces through the Xyron 500 machine:

• You can add the adhesive to the paper first and then punch or cut into shapes if you prefer. As long as the paper is no more than 5 inches wide, it will feed through without any problem.
• Use the Xyron to make layered 3D like stickers- just run the layers thru and start stacking
• Make glitter stickers by running your piece thru on both sides. Then peel off the side you want to sparkle and add glitter. Now, you have a sparkly glitter sticker!
• When making bottlecap pendants, use the Xyron to add adhesive to the backside of your images to be mounted inside (or on top) of the bottlecaps.
• You can also run pieces of fabric, vellum, ribbon, plastic film, very thin and flat buttons, cellophane, large flat sequins, flat thin magnets, etc.. anything that is flat and fairly thin.
• Don't forget other papers like wrapping paper, tissue paper and crepe paper
• There are both permanent and repositionable adhesive cartridges available for the Xyron500
• You can do LOTS of neat stuff with the repositionable adhesive- I'll save that for another hub:)
• They have a Xyron 510 machine that makes stickers, magnets and laminates, too!
• If you are only going to be doing smaller stickers, you can get a Xyron 150. It's a much smaller machine (shaped like an X) and costs around $10 or less. You can find one right now at Amazon for $5. See below.
